I have never had any serious training, yet crossfit is interesting in a way that regular training is not! Read about my journey here!

First crisis avoided - Paleo challenge: day 3/30

I woke up this morning feeling a lot more sore than I usually do, but I figured it was because I pushed myself a little harder a couple of days ago, but throughout the day it kept getting worse and my legs (mostly my knees) were killing me. It wasn’t the bad kind of pain, but the good kind - the sore-after-training pain - which is something we all like!

I had cooked a great breakfast, but even after eating almost 400g of veggies and 3 strips of bacon I was still extremely hungry and it bothered me throughout the day at work. I got home to see that my girlfriend was cooking up a great salad, so I was really looking forward to dinner, and boy did I need that. I ate a little portion, not to feel sick during todays workout, but it turned out to be a lot less than my body needed.

I arrived at the box feeling kinda weird and after a 500m row, all my energy was used up. I have never felt that exhausted after just a row! After that, we went outside (in the awesome weather) to play some fitness-games, one of them being kill the president. If i had any spare energy left, I spent it there! After the games we went inside to get ready for todays WOD. Todays wod was pretty simple and it was easy to set up goals, due to the fact that it was a AMRAP. The workout was:

15 min AMRAP:

  • 10 KB swing - 2pood
  • 10 box jumps - 60cm
  • 10 ring dips

I scaled the KB swing down to 20kg and the ring dips down to band assisted ring dips and set myself a simple goal of completing 5 full rounds - that is one minute for each of the exercises, which sounded to be perfect possible in my head - even with no energy left in my body.

I got into the workout and struggled throughout the entire workout on my last reserves, but I actually completed each round in about 2:55, which left me about 15 seconds left after the fifth round, which i converted into a couple of extra swings. So my score this day was 5+3.

After the workout I was really looking forward to getting home, but I could feel that my body needed something really bad - probaly some form of meat, so I went out and bought porkchops. I rushed home and made two of them and two eggs - plus the salad from earlier. It felt extremely good eating that and I could feel how my body craved for something like that. After eating it, my girlfriend sat down next to me with crackers with Nutella on them, but I had no problem resisting to eat that. I’m not that into Nutella! :)

Another beastly workout! - day 11/146

This morning I wanted to do something different with my breakfast, so I tried making fried eggs instead of scrambled and it turned out pretty well (as you can see on the picture i posted earlier today). Tomorrow i’ll try adding some broccoli to the mix and perhaps also onions or what I feel like. I got this weird feeling about breakfast - I think i’m actually looking forward to it!

At breakfast I had the chance to get a lot of fish, so I took buttloads of smoked salmon and a bunch of salad at the side to complement the fish and it was really great. This paleo thing is turning out pretty well - i’m really getting in to it. But i’m not living full paleo yet, i’m still having the occasional snack, protein bar and energy drink once in a while, but i’ll go full paleo when we get to august and a month from there. August 11th my uncle is getting married and after that, i have nothing scheduled, which means I will attempt to live strictly paleo for 30 days straight.

Best and worst workout yet! - day 9/146

This morning was different. I felt really energized when i woke up and I still felt really full from yesterdays dinner. I had some leftovers from yesterday, but I just couldn’t eat it. It really felt wrong eating on full stomach, so today I did not get any breakfast. I could feel my mind needing the bacon, so tomorrow I will make some for sure!

I arrived at the box at the usual time (which is early), to work on my doubleunders and to do a tabatha-doubleunders. I managed to score 4, which is acceptable, but they were harder today for some reason. I really had problems getting into the flow, but coach mentioned that the robe might have been too long, and I need to adjust it to fit my height. I have bought my own, so i’ll have plenty of opportunity to practice at home, and also when i’m at Roskilde Festival! :)

A full day of paleo! Another awesome day at the box - day 3/146

So today was pretty awesome in general. Earlier today Roskilde Festival released their band schedule and I got the plan for when I have to work during the festival, so now the big music planning race has begun! At breakfast I scrambled some bacon (bacon in the morning is the best thing ever) with onions and bellpepper. A couple of hours later I had a mixed salad, only with the good stuff with some salmon on the side.

Yesterday I went shopping to get some bacon for breakfast, but I also stopped by in the healthy section of the supermarked and stumbled upon fennel. I used to love fennel, but havent seen or tasted one in two years, so I bought one. I sliced it up with some onions, bellpeppers and tomatos and fried it in olive oil in a wok together with some sauteed chicken from the same wok. I ended up spicing it with both curry and paprika and the result was amazing. Who would’ve thought healthy food was that good. It really tasted a million times better than a lot of the food i have eaten recently.

I arrived 30 minutes early at the box, because I wanted to practice my doubleunders. Looking back, I probaly should have focused a little more on doing basic technique with my wrists doing more work instead of the entire arm. My arms did feel pretty heavy after a while, but that was not the worst part. The worst part, by far, is the whipping of self. I have soo many whipping marks on my hands, legs, thighs and butt. But who doesn’t like getting whipped from time to time? :P

Awesome day in the box - day 1/146

I woke up feeling awesome and really ready for exercising in the evening, but I had to get through a full day of work. I woke up at 4:45 am feeling totally fresh, but i made the mistake to roll over and slept for another 3 hours. I really should have gotten up. Tomorrow I will get up when i wake up tomorrow - no matter how early it is. If that happens to be at 4 am again, there might be time to give the blog some love.

So after work, i drove directly to the box, to get a WOD class before the intro class. I did peek at the WOD at crossfit.com, and it really did look impossible for me, so I wanted to give it a go. Crossfit is all about scaling, and I was excited to see how Robe Climbs would be scaled. I talked to my friend, who is a coach at the box also, and he told me the wod would be changed to something different, but to my surprise it wasn’t.
